I saw this flash of bright red-orange color coming from a stack of old (cottonwood?maple?) trees. Had to crawl under this huge tree on my belly and stretch my arms out to get a shot. Didn't even know how beautiful it was until I crawled out. Any ideas? reta
LaReta,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a slime mold, probably Metatrichia vesparium. Were there any little stalks under all of this rusty brown mass that look like very small wasp nests on short sticks. The wasp nest structures may not be visible any more. This looks like it has been fruiting for a while. Genny Steiner
Gol, I don't want to crawl under there. If the log feel; it would be over for me!!! I felt it briefly and felt hard. I'll read about this, thanks!
ReplyDeleteMiss Genny, No, no wasp nests. Doesn't look like this. I really thought it was Spreading Yellow Tooth. I know it's not from around here, but it sounds just like it and the strands are long and red orange.??
