Mann Creek and Keithley Creek Adventures, by Reta and Bill

Okay, for whatever reason, I could not access this site last night. I tried for half and hour and even resorted to following Genny's posted instructions to the letter. No dice. This morning it works. Whatever! So, I posted on my blog. Here is the blog address if you wish to read about what we discovered on Mann and Keithley Creek. http://papacoyote--funguy.blogspot.com

Will somebody put a tail on Kevin?

More Morels on the greenbelt

This is Kevin again. I went to my secret spot today and picked another 155 morels on the greenbelt. We had some for dinner and the dryer is full.

green belt Agaricus

I think we may have found several Agaricus bisporus on the green belt. They were located straight south of the southwest corner of the United water building and about 20 or 30 feet from the river. I didn't have camera since I didn't plan to walk here. No morels. Are these Agaricus the edible ones?

New to Boise..

Hi all,

I just moved to Boise last week and am looking forward to some mushroom forays! A friend and I did a little searching for morels along the greenbelt yesterday, but no dice. That won't stop me! We found some oysters (too dry) and pig's ears but nothing to take home and eat.

My experience is a little deeper in cultivating mushrooms - mostly on wood but some on staw. I've successfully grown Oysters (a few different strains), Ling-Chi, and Shiitake (cold weather). I mostly work from spawn purchased through Fungi Perfecti but I've worked from prints quite a bit too. Since I'm not quite moved in, I have no projects underway but will hopefully be working on some logs soon. Anyway, if you cultivate - drop me a line - I'd love to talk.

Also, if you ever want another set of eyes on the ground - please let me know! Frankly, I'm more interested in the hunt than I am in the fruits (though only just barely) so don't let your hunger sway your decision. You can reach me at afkimball@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Adam Kimball

Just what we needed rain.

This is Kevin. This rain is really going to help things pop. Keep your eyes open for the Oysters and Morels. I don't think the Oysters are done yet.

100 Morels

********************
Hello this is Kevin. I went back to my spot on the greenbelt and found over 100 mushrooms. I even found a couple of Oysters. The Oysters are starting to pop back out. These morels are really pretty blond from growing under cottonwood trees. I will have to check my Agaricus spot on another day. Get out there and start looking. Look for mossy looking areas at the base of the bigger trees. They love to hid under the leaf piles. Usually one pokes up high enough to give away the location.

Morels on the Greenbelt

Hello this is Kevin. I went out tonight after work looking to see what has come up. I found 3 new little morels in my yard before I headed to the greenbelt. I am taking pictures of the morels in the yard everyday to see how much they grow in a day. On the green belt Jaz our dog and I found as many morels as we did ticks. I am still picking them out of her fur. I must have found 15 on my pant legs. I ended up finding two clusters of morels under two different trees. They are very hard to see. They are very blond and much lighter then the ones in my yard. I didn't pick any in hopes that they will grow in this warm weather. I counted 26 in all. After locating these I went to another spot where there is an interesting mushroom crop. Bob Chehey spent a lot of time researching them and he thinks they are Agaricus bisporus. It seems that we haven't reported them in Idaho before. They have been reported in Ca. and Wa. I have found a huge crop of them. I have collected several and may try them in the morning. I talked about them at the meeting. Take a look at the pictures. The ones I took photos of are overripe. The fresh ones have pinkish gills. Click on the photo for a better image.

S. Fk Boise River

After checking the spore print I figure the mushrooms we saw were Crepidotus applanatus which were growing on cottonwoods. Anyone have any comments on this observation.

oyster mushrooms

I searched the S. Fk of the Boise for oysters or morels this last weekend and found nothing. I found a few fresh mushrooms growing on cottonwoods, but I didn't know what they were exactly.

Morels are up in Eagle!

Hello

This is Kevin S your blogmaster. Great news the morels are up in my yard in Eagle. Yesterday I was moving a tarp that I use to cover fire wood and found a morel under it. I looked around the same area and found two more. As you may recall last year I processed close to 15 gallons of morels. When I did that I spread the scraps all over my bark area. It looks like some of that paid off. This is the news we have all been waiting for. If you have already seen some around town please post the date you found them so we have history of the first date of the season. No uninvited visitors to my house please. Oh, I forgot to tell you we moved and we live in Burley. HaHa Kevin
