It looks like we are shutdown due to the cold weather. I took a stroll along the greenbelt and all of my favorite trees were bare. This might be a good time for some good recipe postings. If you have a favorite recipe please post it here. We all should have some dried or frozen mushrooms. If your recipe is in a book you might just list the book and the page that you got it from.

My Chanterelle quest is complete.Kevin S
I had a couple of days free so I made a mad dash to the Oregon coast on Thursday. I stayed with Wendy's parents in Portland. I searched Friday and Saturday in a triangle area of Tillamook, Cannon Beach and Banks Or. I was able to get my fill of Chanterelles. They are still coming up but the Boletes are done from what I saw. Go to my blog for more info on the trip if you wish. http://kevinsubmushrooms.blogspot.com/ I will get something posted there soon.

11/15/2009 The big freeze
This is a shot of a Lepiota finding ealier this fall.
We have had a couple of cold nights. I found some new Lepiota rachodes in one of my spots. I found enough to fill 3 trays in my dehydrator. Today I went for a dog walk and filled half a grocery bag with Oysters from trees that I had never found them on before. Some I had to hit with my hand to break them off because they were frozen. My razor knife couldn't cut through the frozen mushroom. I am hoping we warm up to kick off one more fruiting of Lepiotas. Wendy and I really love them in Idaho mashed potatoes. I have more then a gal. bag of dried Lepiotas but you never know who may come by. I buy a retractable razor knife 3 pack at the dollar store which works real well if the mushrooms aren't frozen.

Lepiotas on the greenbelt today. Kevin S
I took a quick stroll on the greenbelt and found a fresh crop of Lepioto Rachodes ( now called Chlorophyllum rachodes). I checked my previous spot and some more had poped up there also. Remember they tend to like distrubed soil. These were is a mound of dirt that had been piled up.
Chanterelle quest.
Does anyone have an idea where the closest place is to find chanterelles this time of year. I may have to go to the Oregon coast. Kevin S
Bill Betts checking in
My 3-year old granddaughter brought these to me Sunday while we were visiting at her house. She says dad mows these. I learned at the meeting that these are of the Suillus genus and because my son's yard is filled with about 40 mature Scotch pines, I am guessing the species is luteus; thus the common name of "slippery jack." I would likely never made identification without the help of Bob and Ginny. Thanks.
Good meeting. I am excited about members using this blog. I enjoyed the program and, yes, there are benefits to commuting with them who provide the treats. Yum. My blog for mushrooms is <http://www.papacoyote--funguy.blogspot.com/> You will only be able to read the blog and make comments. Please, make comments. I find that with these blogspots it is best to bookmark the URL because trying to remember these addresses would be difficult. At least for this old funguy, it is difficult.--Bill

Cabin Cr CG on the MF of the Weiser
You will have to bear with me because I can never get the pictures to go where I want them to. So in your mind line up the text with the picture that it is describing.
Reta and I (Bill Betts) checked out the Green Belt of Payette and the area around the Payette fish pond and found nothing. Then we found Coprinus altramentarius in the yard at the Second Chance at the corner of Crystal Lane and Highway 95. We told the owners that the mushrooms were good to eat, but declined when Reta told them she had made her husband slightly ill when she fed him these mushrooms.
Then we traveled up toward C0uncil to the Cabin Creek CG on the Middle Fork of the Weiser River. We found about 16 different mushrooms, all but one very small. We found this interesting growth on the side of a stump. I think the stump might have been a Douglas Fir stump, but I am not certain.
cambridge sightings
Even through the cold mornings - in the teens - we are finding Pleurotis, Agaricus and a new fruiting never seen before on the ranch. Large robust mushrooms in fairy rings near cottonwood. I think I have it figured, waiting for a spore print. Keep you posted. Sue

11/05/2009 Road trip
This is Kevin Sublett,
I took a road trip yesterday. I drove from Boise to Idaho City, to Banks then back to Boise. I stopped along the way to see if I could find any mushrooms. When I went over the pass north of Idaho City I found that the ground was frozen solid at the highest points. I really didn't find anything until I got closer to Garden Valley. I still had no huge finds but at least the ground wasn't frozen. I found some Ramaria around banks but not much new growth. Today 11/05/2009 I found some, what I think is, Suillus albivelatus under a spruce tree in Eagle.

Welcome to the Idaho mushrooms site.
The purpose of this site is to allow southern Idaho mushroom lovers too keep up with what other people are finding. Please post general locations of the mushrooms found including Species or at least the Genus. A general location is something like, the Boise area greenbelt or within 5 miles of McCall. Please don't give away your secret locations. I will start posting some of my findings. Feel free to email me if you are having trouble. kevinsub@yahoo.com You can click on the picture icon to the right of Link in the the data entry window to insert a picture. I have password protected the site so only people I have given the password to can read the blog or make additions or corrections. Please don't give out the password to anyone without informing me of the persons email address and name or initals. I will keep track of who has access. I may need to contact someone if there are problems with their post. Please sign your post with your initials or name. If you are heading out you may want to check to see what others are finding. When you return make a short post to help others out. Postings about findings in other states or countries by blog members are welcome. I want this to be fun and informative not a burden.
